Tortoise And Elephant

Look at Tortoise. He is a small animal. He is slow. Other animals laugh at him. But he is wise.

 This is Elephant. He is a big animal. Other animals fear his size. They respect him. But he is proud.
It is evening. Tortoise is coming from his farm .He has been working since morning. He is very tired.
Tortoise meets Elephant. He greets, Good evening, Elephant.'' But elephant does not reply. He keeps walking to his home.
    Tortoise stops him. Good evening, Elephant, my friend, he says again. Elephant gets angry. A small animal like you shouldn't be greeting me, he trumpets. ''I'm sorry, Elephant.'' Tortoise begs. Let me be going home. I'm so tired from working on my farm.''
        Tortoise sets off for home. But elephant puts his large legs on Tortoise's way.
                ''Stop, you're so foolish, Tortoise. If you're wise like me, you'll not be tired from working.''
Tortoise stops. He looks up at Elephant.
                ''Why is it that you're never tired?''
                   ''It's because I'm wise to be so big,'' Elephant says.''It's small and foolish animals like you that get tired.'' Tortoise is angry. But he says, ''I'm sorry, Elephant. I want to be big like you. I'm so small. It's true. you're right. I'm a foolish animal.'' Elephant goes home. Tortoise also goes home. But heis not happy. ''Elephant is so proud and foolish,'' he says. ''I 'll show him tomorrow that I'm small, but wise.'' It is morning of the next day. Tortoise digs a big hole on his farm. Then he covers it with a mat. He smiles to himself.
           ''I'll show Elephant how foolish how he is. He'II soon learn never to be proud.'' Tortoise goes to Elephant's house. He begs, ''Please come to my farm. Wise    Elephant.''   ''Why?'' Elephant asks. ''There's a wonderful mat on my farm,'' Tortoise lies. ''But only the wisest animal can rest on it. I know you're never tired. But please come and rest on the mat for the wise.''
 Elephant goes with Tortoise to his farm.
Elephant feels very proud. ''I'm the wisest animal, ''he says, ''Ishould rest on the mat for the wise.'' Elephant rests and falls into the big hole under the mat.
       Tortoise laughs at Elephant. ''Size doesn't mean wisdom. I'm the one who's wise.''
   Since that day, animals call Tortoise the wisest animal.
